Hear ye, hear ye...
I am hereby proclaiming my intention to start swimming again. It is time.
You see, my dear friend Stuart Edward is coming to the District this weekend with his swim team -- his SWIM TEAM! -- and I have not put one single toe in the chlorinated waters of glory in whole months. MONTHS. I recognize I'm repeating myself a bit, but that's because I'm 1) so happy for him, and 2) so humiliated for myself.
Stuart and I were longtime swimming partners -- really, secondary members of the FSU swim team (though those swimmers did not know that). For months, years, we swam together, first outdoors and then indoors, putting in long hours for the sake of Olympic glory. Then I moved, and he moved, and in the process I somehow lost my way down the lanes of the pool. Gone were the freestyle, the kickboards, the hand paddles, and my favorite, the backstroke. And gone was my figure!!
So Stuart has shown me how it's done. He's proven that a little move and a new job don't have to stop a future Olympian from his or her future gold medal. He's well on his way. Now it's my turn.
I'm writing this here so that I will hold myself accountable, at least in some small way. I do so want to get back to the pool. It's high time I get in gear. And this time, dear readers (or reader? or no one?), I shall report in on a somewhat regular basis until I've gotten my habit down.
Funny how even from many states away, my favorite swimming buddy can help push me "one step beyond." ;) I thank him for the wakeup call!
:)
